ActiveX-like embedding of applications in OpenOffice.org?

I'm working on the problem of embedding applications in an OpenOffice docking window --- similar to the new API inside Word which allows to embed ActiveX applications in a task pane.

I just started “hacking” on the problem and I decided to try whether I can embed a Java Applet inside an OpenOffice.org docking window.

Well I “hacked” :-) the Navigator --- which is a docking window --- and reused some code from the sj module and here it is:





However there a some --- severe --- open problems:
- Focus: The framework knows nothing about XEMBED_REQUEST_FOCUS, etc
(http://standards.freedesktop.org/xembed-spec/latest/ar01s05.html)
So there is a focus problem when the applet is running in "docked" mode. (Maybe this is also the problem why the OOoBean is not working so good?)
- Need to clone the Navigator code...
- Resize problem and other events. Currently the embedded app is not notified
about resize events.
- Need to define an API to get link between embedded aps and the custom
pane.
- Some "solar mutex" problems as always :-)

In these days I decided to improve the site switching from Joomla to Drupal. I liked Joomla very much because it was really easy and immediate to use. But there was a think I didn’t like about it: the way it handled news. I wanted to have something similar to a blog, and this isn’t Joomla mission. So, after using Drupal for strigi’s website, I fall in love with it and I decided to make “the switch”.

During the upgrade I also installed a “real” gallery program (I’m referring to Gallery), you can navigate through it clicking here.

I hope you’ll like the new look and will enjoy it!

I also promise that I’ll keep this site more updated, stay tuned… in the next weeks I’ll start writing some good technical post ;)

Btw, during the upgrade I ported all previous contents and comments to drupal.

Travelled to Paris with mouse with a heavy delay. We got chocloate from the airline. That calmed mouse down. Got to know Christina's amazing friends and the woman from the launderette. Learned that helium and singing goes together very well as do drawings and faces. Of course we also did the usual sight-seeing and made photographs of mouse. Mouse and colossus mouse did without a fight when mouse found out about the real size of colossus mouse. It was all quite relaxed compared to the next day in Olpe. We celebrated don't know what. But it was kinda fun. At least I think so. Today mouse has to build a wardrobe, but will get a cookie and a pub visit in return.

Yesterday I’ve made a speech at Gazzaniga’s Lug regarding next KDE4 major features and Strigi.

I was surprised the news that Microsoft announced UOF-OpenXML translator project with China. The goal of UOF–OpenXML translator :

"As part of Microsoft’s continued commitment to interoperability, Microsoft decided to work with CHINA Electronics Standardization Institute, Beijing Information Technology Institute, one of the co-creators of the UOF Chinese standard , Beihang University of Beijing and with other partners to create a Translator between UOF and Open XML and provide interoperability between the two formats in both directions. Microsoft is funding and providing technical architectural guidance for the development of the translator that will benefit millions of people who live in China."
