For the first time ever, I was able to successfully suspend my laptop (IBM T40p) to RAM. For the longest time I was having a problem where the disk would go completely insane upon resuming. Very annoying.

I found out recently that it was probably due to the BIOS re-enabling HPA (Host Protected Area) when coming out of sleep. Unfortunately, there didn’t appear to be any kind of workaround for it, but tonight I discovered that you can use the Hitachi Feature Tool to disable it for good. It totally fixed my problem. Woo.

We are in the middle of the preparations for LinuxTag 2006 (May 3-6) which moves this year from Karlsruhe to Wiesbaden. The openSUSE project will be present at the Novell booth in the exhibition and at our own one-day sub-conference ("openSUSE Tag") on Thursday, May 4. You find the program to the latter here.

Yesterday we held an IRC meeting on #opensuse to discuss our activities at LinuxTag. The transcript of this meeting will be in the wiki very soon, stay tuned. The schedule we have so far is not holy, we are especially interested in having more talks from non-SUSe-employed community members. So if you have something openSUSE-related to tell the world please let us know as soon as possible. Also, if you missed the meeting and have any comments, please speak up.

I rolled a new release of daap-sharp tonight, with the main new benefit being that it now runs on Windows. After Aaron added Bonjour bindings, there wasn’t much stopping this from happening, so I fixed up the last couple of bugs. I also made an ultra-cheesy test application using Windows Forms:

Recently, Jeff asked the Slashdot guys to stop using GNOME’s 700 year old logo in favor of the new one. They have not changed it. I have a solution.

On my way home from the pub I went to the office to pick up a box of openSUSE T-Shirts which I will take with me to Salt Lake City for chosen openSUSE contributors and friends. It was well before midnight, and on my floor nobody was working late. This may mean that my colleagues work from home, that they do so hiding in dark offices, or that finally people have some room for breathing again. I hope it's the latter.

This time I'm more an observer in the process of making a SUSE Linux, as I was busy with talking about openSUSE - preparing presentations, giving them, visiting the mother ship, lots of internal discussions. I still have a handful of packages, but I feel a little bit more detached from the development than I'd like to. Well, somebody has to do the talking, too.

My suitcase is incredible. I would have expected to need a second one for the additional 37 T-Shirts I carry with me on this trip, but there's even room for more stuff. Maybe the old joke about fitting an infinite number of T-Shirts in suitcases tells the truth: you always can fit one more into it...

Random observation of the day: the hairdresser on my street sells a shampoo called "Dumb Blonde".

Svn-commit is a command line utility for making rapid commit with subversion. Suppose you’re working on your local copy of a subversion project. If you forget to run commands like svn del file or svn add file each time you add or remove a file, when you’ll try to commit your working copy you’ll obtain something like this:

• ? file: for each file/directory that isn’t under the revision system

• ! file: for each file/directory you’ve removed without the command svn del svn-commit will prevent these errors because it will tell svn to:

• add all your unversioned files to the repository
