Greeks woke up earlier in order to be in time at Zentrifuge. We ate breakfast and we prepared ourselves for taking the road to the conference. We were a bit tired but we wanted to live again and again the experience of participating at the openSUSE Conference. So we took the metro and went at Zentrifuge.

There were many community based presentations and many technical presentations about Google summer of code projects and in general technologies that openSUSE uses and updates. Our day started by attending the conversation about “Do we need an ambassador mentoring program?” by Koudaras, Kostas where we talked about ambassadors and how we can improve the program in all ways. Many people from Novel attended the presentation and integrate with ideas in order to help improve the program. After that, we attended “Connect - a social networking platform for the openSUSE Community” by Mr. Vogelsang, Hendrik and Rusnak, Pavol who presented us this new awesome community tool, how it works and how we can improve it.








But, the last day of the openSUSE Conference wasn't over. After leaving Zentrifuge we went at a nearby city where there is the beer factory that made us the “Old Toad” openSUSE beer! We were guided in the factory rooms and saw how beer is made. After that, we ate local food and drunk local beer at the local restaurant where we stayed there till late at night discussing, drinking beer and having fun!





openSUSE Conference was a great experience for everyone. We met new people, we met the global openSUSE community, we learnt many things from them and how they work and the most important is that we worked with them and we will collaborate in the future.

From Nuremberg,

The Greeks woke up early today. The cloudy weather of Nuremberg didn't stopped us from taking the road to openSUSE Conference. We also had Lydia Pintschert of KDE keep us company for the way to Zentrifuge.

Today there are many interesting presentations about community tools and about new technologies in Linux. We started from Lydia's awesome presentation about “Social skills for geeks”. After that we attended the presentation of Mr. Vogelsang, Hendrik about “How to contribute to the openSUSE Wiki” which was very interesting and we all were there get informed on our next community target ;). Also, we attended at the main hall the presentation of an important member of SUSE and openSUSE Mr. Milller Michael who told us about his experience with SUSE and openSUSE. After we ate, talked with people and rest ourselves we attended the conversation about “Playing with Geeko: Contribution can be fun” by Koudaras, Kostas and Gupta, Manu where they presented to the community why and how we can contribute at the project.

After attending all those interesting presentations it was time for an extraordinary one! George “Etern4L” Bratsos and Kostas “Warlordff” Koudaras signed up and attended the “8 bit music workshop" by Mr. Fertala Hannes. They had a tweaked Game Boy and tried to make music from it. After that, Kostas presented the music that he made which was awesome!!!

Stathis “Efagra” Agrapidis focused on Packaging presentations and workshops while he is a packager.

Stella went with Jos at the supermarket in order to buy steaks, sausages, salads and etc for the barbeque. Also, there was an extraordinary happening. Fertala Hannes, had an 8bit Music concert !!! We had a lot of fun eating, drinking beer and hearing the great music from the Game Boys!

Someone asked me the other day if I plan to resume work on my pet project, Gorilla. I thought it's worth replying in public.

Continuing to embrace the unique Gorilla style I would be undoing hundreds of hours of work we invested in the Tango project. I am happy to see people willingly or inadvertently staying within the boundaries set by the guidelines. There is nothing worse than getting a fan mail from someone who has assembled a "theme" composed of all the clashing styles you have created.

Gorilla, you're my (the?) first SVG icon set, you are my darling. But the world is better without you. Rest in peace.

Greek team woke up in the cloudy morning in Nuremberg. We ate our breakfast at hotel and we started heading to the openSUSE Conference.

We arrived a bit late but luckily they haven't started yet! There were again many interesting presentations among about community, distribution and about technology. Presentations that stood out where “openSUSE Tumbleweed” Mr. KH, Greg, “Ambassador Program: Current status,potential changes and improvements” by Mr. KOUDARAS, Kostas (openSUSE), Mr. GUPTA, Manu (openSUSE), “Our experience in organizing a local community: The Greek example” by by Mr. KOUDARAS, Kostas (openSUSE) and “How to get more Women into openSUSE” by PINTSCHER, Lydia (KDE). Do not forget the LPI exams we had at the conference.

After the presentations were over there were a big “Rodeo Texas Party”! There were free hamburgers for everyone, poker tables and a bull in order to try to ride! Geekos gathered outside the building of the Conference, ate a lot, played poker and had fun riding the bull!

After that, there was live music at Zentrifuge with rock music! Geekos gathered there, danced, drunk beer and some OUZO Kostas brought there till late at night! :)

From Nuremberg,

In my talk (or rather: structured discussion) "Methods of Attraction: How to bring in new contributors" on this year's X.org Developer's Conference I brought up reasons why open source projects often fail to attract new contributors, and some changes to help this.

During the discussion it turns out that for X.org the changes are either very non-trivial, or (better) somewhat implemented already (like the list of low hanging fruits, which basically boils down to our ToDo list and the Janitor subproject).

I didn't really expect any direct outcome from this discussion (as it's more like a meta discussion because we need to understand the real issues first), but I think it was fruitful especially in keeping everybody aware of the situation.

One interesting aspect regarding our (very) low female contributor ratio was brought up by Brian Cameron: The Gnome project has an apparently successful program to promote contributions of women in their project. Something to be checked out in the future, maybe X.org can join forces or set up something similar.

We rock baby and we like it

Awesome! The sun goes up in Nuremberg... The Greek team woke up early in the morning in order to get ready for the first day of the conference... We had a good breakfast and we started heading for the Zentrifuge in order to meet the other guyz and attend the Conference. On our road to the openSUSE Conference we met the Chinese community and we both head to the conference together.

When we arrived people were awesome. Everyone was there... The day's program was printed so we took a copy in order to see and decide which awesome presentations we will attend!

We all attended the presentation of Mr. ZYSK, Gregory “Introduction to Cross-Cultural Communication, Conflict and Collaboration”. After presenting his model of cross-cultural communication model and his ambitions, he made an awesome test... He made everyone in the room pick a mate that he hadn't worked with him at all or get to know and after he gave us two papers of different scenarios he made us conflict and find a common solution to solve the scenario!

It was a difficult choice on decide which presentation we will attend and everyone made his own choice. There were community based presentations, and many technical presentations. Everything went as programmed and after a day full of knowledge it came about 18:00 when we started a “Barbeque Party” !!! Kostas, wore his firefighter uniform in order to be ready to protect us from the flames while me and Stathis were helping baking the sausages. After that, a party started with rock music beers and geekos talking, laughing and having fun till late at night!

In Friday morning, at 4:50 Kostas “Warlordfff” Koudaras , George “Etern4L” Bratsos, Eustathios “efagra” Agrapidis and Stella “differentreality” Rouzi met in Thessaloniki’s airport. We were about to travel to Nuremberg, Germany to go at the openSUSE Conference at Zentrifuge.

After we met up at the airport we checked in and we entered the airplane. It is the first journey of the Greek community to a Conference like that. After two and a half hours we arrived at Zurich airport where we stayed for two hours waiting for the next flight to Nuremberg. The flight between Zurich and Nuremberg lasted half an hour an finally after 4 hour traveling we arrived at Nuremberg.

At Nuremberg, we went to the hotel we left our luggage and we went straight to Zentrifuge in order to meet the other geekos and help organizing and in general help at the openSUSE Conference. When we arrived we found people already working there... Bruno who was at Fosscomm was setting up the sound over the halls, other were creating pins with the names of the participants, other were preparing some special bags which include a poster, stickers, a magazine and many other things and other were setting up the presentation laptops. Stella and I helped with the bags, Kostas and Stathis helped with the pins were they excel,and by folding fliers. After that, Jos the community manager decided that we must decorate the halls so George and Stella went with him at IKEA and bought some pretty things for the halls.

After a long and difficult day at 19:00 we stopped working and started drinking beers :) We had a small “Pizza Party” !!! Fifteen pizzas arrived at Zentrifuge for the geekos there! Old Toad the openSUSE beer helped geekos retrieve their strength for the next day! We ate, talked about several things laughed a lot and drunk many beers!

After the long day, we took the metro and returned to our hotel in order to rest, take a bath and prepare our selves for the next awesome day.

Começa nesta quarta-feira (10/8), a partir das 14 horas, a consulta pública promovida pela Agência Nacional de Telecomunicações (Anatel) sobre as propostas de melhorias da Internet banda larga fixa. A agência também divulgou as datas das audiências públicas que serão realizadas sobre o assunto.
 
Segundo informações publicadas nesta quarta-feira no Diário Oficial da União, são duas consultas públicas. A consulta n.º 45, de 8/8/2011, visa reunir opiniões sobre as propostas de alteração do Regulamento de Serviço de Comunicação Multimídia, que rege a Internet banda larga fixa. Já a consulta n.º 46, de 9/8/2011, discute padrões mínimos de qualidade para o serviço.

As propostas de mudança foram aprovadas pela Anatel na última quinta-feira (4/8). Os principais itens da proposta envolvem indicadores de reação do assinante, com limites para o número de reclamações dos assinantes, e índices mínimos de velocidade instantânea e média das conexões.

As consultas públicas abertas nesta quarta-feira serão mantidas por 30 dias. A Anatel avisa que as contribuições e sugestões devem ser fundamentadas e identificadas. O modo preferencial de enviá-las é por meio de formulário eletrônico do Sistema Interativo de Acompanhamento de Consulta Pública (SACP), no site da Anatel.

O prazo termina às 24h de 8 de setembro de 2011.

Audiências
Além das consultas, a Anatel vai promover duas audiências públicas, ambas no dia 23 de agosto, em Brasília (DF). Pela manhã, das 9h às 13h, haverá a audiência sobre a consulta n.º 45; à tarde, das 14h às 18h, está prevista a audiência sobre o tema da consulta n.º 46.
